HISTORY

"In 1874 at Syracuse University, students and friends Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis and Mary A. Bingham decided it was high-time to break gender alienation on their campus. In effort to create a welcoming and supportive environment for collegiate women, they founded Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Fast-forward to today, more than 145 years later, and the Sorority, which was the first female organization to be coined with that name, continues to be a safe haven for all 224,000 (and counting) of its members." Gamma Phi Beta

"Epsilon Sigma Chapter was installed at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, on January 19, 1991.

Epsilon Sigma Chapter was installed on January 19, 1991 -- a memorable day for the 41 women who were initiated as charter members. The ceremony was conducted by Beta Epsilon Chapter (Miami-Ohio) under the direction of international ritual chairwoman and past International President Audrey Weldon Shafer (Missouri-Columbia, 1938). After the ceremony, members, parents and friends gathered at the University of Kentucky Faculty Club for the Installation banquet. At the time, Gamma Phi Beta was the fifth sorority on campus." Gamma Phi Beta
